Default Battery Tender question

I have question about my Battery tender ...Its been pretty mild here in the East this year so I hadn't connected the Battery Tender until last night . My question is since I have lost my instructions and my battery is about 3 months old . Why is the red charging light been on since about 8 p.m. last night and still on red this morning at 9 a.m. . Shouldn't the battery be charged by now , like I said its a pretty new battery . I haven't used the car alot but I would assume the battery couldn't have lost so much power in the last 3 months . Any input would be helpful ...

I would do a 10 amp charge to get the thing up to par. They leave the battery tender on it. Then only put out around .75 amps. I know they float so maybe it was off then back on? I would charge it up all the way up first.

From my experiences the light usually goes from red to green after about 12 hours. I put the Battery Tender on if I know I'm not going to drive the Car for the next couple of weeks. I would say wait another hour or so and check again, if the light is still red, unplug it for about a minute and then plug it back in. Then check the light after about an hour, if the light is still red you may have something draining your Battery, or a faulty charger. Check to see if the lights on the vanity mirrors are off, turn your Car alarm off also. If things are on they are draining the battery and the Tender is trying to keep up. Silly question are your under hood lights off???? Also what was the Battery at when you put the Tender on???

cdnguyred88...yes the underhood lights are off and I have not had a problem with the battery not being able to start the car . I start the car every week at first turn of the key no problems , I just don't want to have to start it every week , hence putting the baterry tender on it now . I will wait as you say and follow your advice and hope all falls into place . Thanks for the input guys .

Default Been using them for a long time

Having the red light stay on for an extended period time with a Battery
Tender is not that uncommon. (Assuming you have a "Battery Tender" brand charger) Yes your battery may not be that old and yes it starts the car but that doesn't mean its charged to the 14+ volts a Battery Tender brings the battery up to before holding the charge, i.e., green light.

Thanks for the 411 Larry ....I'll keep waiting ....another question . Can I start the car with the battery tender connected or will it damage the "Battery Tender" ? I have had this Battery Tender laying around for a couple of years and have misplaced instructions ...thanks !

Default battery tender

hey dino i dont know what kind of tender you have, but like i said in my post when the red light is on it means that battery is fully charged. my red light does not go out unless it needs charging, then the green light comes on then when it has a full charge my red light comes back on. i think that you have a fully charged batt. nothing wrong that is just the way unit tells you that batt. is fully charged geo.

You can start car with Battery Tender attached with no effects on Battery Tender. I've done it many times without a problem. Biggest problem I have wth Tender is that over the years I've wiped out three of them by forgetting to disconnect them before backing out of the garage. Most of the time, the cable disconnect works but when it doesn't my first clue is the funny noise I hear as I start to drive it down the street.
