After a discussion with a good mate; I added some heat resisting material (It wasn't TRUE heat shielding, rather noise absorbing material I had laying around with a thin layer of aluminium on it) UNDER the air intake housing of my '85; I just used the car and I SWEAR it's picked up extra 'gee-gees'!
The whole idea was to make the housing less prone to heat and heat-soak since the housing sits ABOVE a hot radiator housing...Seems to have worked!

I have been contemplating the same thing after I realized how hot the intake gets and I did some data logging on the IAT....I have the SLP triple snorkle and was thinking about wrapping it with insulation/heat reflector of some sort..
Your report is real encouraging....I need to get busy..
That's why guys think a 160 thermo is so great-supposedly adds HP-it doesn't-maybe the engine runs cooler-but it's the intake COOL air which causes it to perform better-you could and can pack your intake with dry ice or something else to keep the intake cooler which will cause the air to be cooler/colder and the engine to perform better!

Yeah but it's a PITA to keep sticking dry ice in there - much better to have an insulator
No matter what thermostat is used, the egine will eventually find the temperature it wants, just might take it longer to get there with a cooler thermostat.
As far as temperature/making hp there is a definite advantage to running cooler. JMO, not trying to bicker.
