Hi, I just bought a new pioneer radio and put it in my 90 and cant get the antena to move. I conected the the power antena wire from the relay and it clicks but the antena never goes up. What do you guys think.
Thanks Mike
Could be a dead antenna motor. You hear the relay click, but do you hear the motor run. If you hear the motor and it doesn't go up you can probably just get a new antenna mast / cable and fix it. If the motor doesn't even run then you'll need to figure out why. Could be wiring, could be just that the motor is shot.
Ok, same thing happend to me...... I put a JVC in mine and the antenna would not go up. I bought an internal antenna that works fine. Besides, i think the cars look better w/ the antenna down.
Your new radioes could be designed for pawer antenna that does not require a relay. The cut in cut out switches are built into the antenna for these and the antenna lead has constant key on current and the radio just cives momentary current to the antenna to trigger the up or down mode to get it started and the internal switches turn it off when it reaches the end of travel up or down. Test the antenna wire on the radio to see if the signal is only momentary.
You can still get your stock antenna to work be wireing an of/ on switch that you can hide in in the console. Wore one side of the switch to the cars antenna wire ( pink wire plugged into the radio module under the passanger side knee panel with the antenna reception wire on my 92) and the other end of the wire to a "key on" Bat+. This way the antenna will go up whenever the switch is on and the key is on and go off when you turn off the car or the switch weather the radio is on or off. This feature is nice when you want to listen to your radio going through the car wash (OH NO). Alternatively you can have the antenna down while listening to the radio when the signal is strong or when you are playing a tape or CD.
Hope this helps
