Default A word on some threads

First I need to start off withthis:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...34&forum_id=48

Now a word about this forum.

The Corvetteforum is a place to discuss and learn about one car and one car only. The Corvette.

We have other sections for other cars but that's already getting off the subject.

Now for the point.

We are here to discuss and even have friendly debates about our cars and what works and doesn't work as far as mods go.

We are not here to start fights or argue endlessly after the point has been made.

Just because I'm not here 24/7 doesn't give anyone the right to start or continue a thread that has gone out of control.

People who post a or are quilty of prolonging the thread to stir it up more.

Here's the bottom line. This forum is publicly viewable, but it is privately owned. The owner has set some rules that not everyone follows. Is that OK? In some cases yes, in most cases no.

There are no first amendment rights here, so you just can't say anything and then complain if I edit or remove the comment, or even if I lock it which brings me to my next point.

There are many features of this forum that go unused. Some have technical difficulties(search) and some are simply unknown(PM and "report a post")

We had a few threads go bad this week and I only received two PM's and 2 emails(from "report post") but yet there were thousands of views.

If you feel any thread has gone out of control, simply report it, do not reply to it.

Some may ask, "Isn't it my job as a moderator to do that?" The answer is yes, but I am only one man with a beyond fulltime job. I can only be here when I'm here.

I'm not going to accuse anyone of creating disturbing posts while I'm at work all day, but that's when they always seem to happen. I have a lot of watchdogs out there but even so, I have to have access to the forum in order to do anything.

As far as defending supporting vendors/dealers/members. They have no more rights than even the newest member. What supporters have are privileges that a normal member doesn't.
Those privileges include:

posting attachments
animated avatars
unlimited pic uploads to the gallery
a forum to discuss the forum itself
and a few others

a privilege is not a right. It's like your drivers license. Nobody has the right to drive a car, it is a privilege which is why it can be taken away.

So those who may think I close a thread at the request of a vendor, that simply is not true. I close a thread based on the actual content in the thread. In most cases no discipline is necessary and I'd like to keep it that way.

I've met thousands of you over the years and there are thousands more that I may never meet.
Those of you who know me, know how I operate, so I'm going to ask a favor. Not doing what I ask won't get you in trouble unless a violation of the forum guidelines has occured.
My favor is this.
If you see a thread that is going bad, please report it either by using the report button (it's the white triangle at the left under your name)or by PM. Also, please clear your inboxes so that I can reply to you if needed. If you see a thread that has gone bad, do not reply to it, just report it.
As mentioned in some of the locked threads, the originator may not know he's opening a can of worms, it's all in how it's interpreted, and on an internet forum it isn't easy. It's very hard to say what you realy mean in text, especially if you don't use proper punctuation and grammar.

Now for a refresher on some of the guidelines.

You can not insult or otherwise attack another member for any reason.
Defending yourself is a thin line, it all depends on how you say what you say. Nobody likes to be accused of anything bad and teh natural tendency is to stick up for yourself, but you have to ask yourself, is this guy attacking you so that he can get you to respondd negatively and eventually get you banned?
The bad guy isn't always the guy who gets banned.
An example is troll hunters. A troll comes in, stirs th pot and nobody sees him again, all those who jumped on the troll are all in violation.

Making threats(of bodily harm or property damage) will get you kicked off, more than likely permanently.

If you have a bad deal with someone, you may post about it, but only after you've made every effort to correct the situation and have hard facts to back it up.

I know I missed a lot here, but I'm tired and I have a headache.

If anyone has questions or comments, PM or email me, please do not create a new post about it.
