Hey all, I've been busy rebuilding my l98 and I have found that the 2149 hookers(I think that's the number) won't bolt up properly for the egr to the intake. They just give a flange but no bendable pipe like the stock set up. Do they supply the proper pipe that will match my ceramic coated headers? Thanks
Re: hooker headers, egr pipe won't bolt up (my1stvette)
My1st:
I had the same deal with the Hookers, plus a few others that really made it a PITA :yesnod:
I happened to have a 1" square bar of aluminum in the junk pile. I cut a piece off to measure about 1 x 1 x 1.5". I then took the matching gasket and drilled three holes, two small ones for the bolts and a larger one to approximate the size of the inside of the pipe. I went to GM and got two extra gaskets for the top and the bottom of the piece of aluminum so that it would seal to the flange well. I went to Loews and got a pair of longer bolts ( two inches or so as I recall ) so that I could bolt the whole assembly up. So far, for about 8 months, it has held a seal well.
You will have to check around to find a block of metal about that that size. I just happened to have aluminum laying around.
Those hookers were certainly way off on their fit. I had Mike Norris of Norris Motorsports do the work. He was very patient to deal with all the problems the Hookers presented. I would not recommend the hookers for this reason, although they do have the advanteges of not having to remove the starter to get them in or out  I Definately recommend Mike to anyone in the Orlando area that needs work on their Vette. He has saved me more than once :blueangel:
Re: hooker headers, egr pipe won't bolt up (Flame Red)
just installed my #2149 on my 88 auto,no real problems I reused stock egr tube(had to bend it a little), dont get the new y-pipe like I did because it hits the shift linkage bracket&too close to oil pan on other side, when u tighten up bolts, clearances increase as compared to holding up by hand. :U
Re: hooker headers, egr pipe won't bolt up (my1stvette)
I just found two egr pipes with flanges on both ends from a boneyard-one with the temp sensor off an 86 and the second one from an 90+. The later models don't have a temp sensor hole but do have the flage for the lower half that bolts to the header. Then cut 'em and carefully weld the two into one of the correct lengh. As far as fit I didn't have any problems with the headers-just the y-pipe.
