Default help with code?

I decided to take the Vette to work today it has been unseasonalbly warm the past week and it rained heavly yesterday so all the salt was washed off the roads. On my 5 mile trip to work I noticed something funny. Next to the speedometer SYS would pop up every time I got on the throttle or let off. I read in the owners manual that means something may be wrong with the electrical system. The car is a 96 LT4 the conditions were 38 degrees the car did not warm up for a very long time and as I mentioned it is only five miles to work. Also the last time I started the car was two weeks ago. When I started it then I think the car was running rich because it smelled a little like gas. When I drove home I warmed the car up for a long time and I did not get the SYS. Does SYS mean I was getting a code and if so how can I check it without a code reader. Any help would be great.

The factory service manual will detail how to extract the codes, what they refer to, and how to trouble shoot them.

RACE ON!!!

100%-if you want help and plan on doing some wrenching get
the factory service manuals-they give flow charts as to what to check 1st etc. Good Luck.

Do yourself a favor. You need two things. A Helms Manual and a universal code reader for OB11's. Buy the Helms manual on Ebay and buy the code reader from Harbor Freight, $39.95. The above is just my opinion.
