I'm getting ready to modify my the L98 in my 86. My mods are thus:
Stock block, no mods save for windage tray.
Mild Pro Topline Pro Torker 67cc 2.02/1.60 AL heads w/1.6 RR (170cc Intake runner)
TPIS Big Mouth manifold
Edelbrock high flow runners
ported plenum
52mm TB
Long-tube ceramic headers
SLP Mufflers (not sure of part number)
Erson Cam:
AD 296/306
D@.050 228/235
Corrected lift .502/.502
Lobe centerline 110
Dana 36 w/3.56 gears
This is not my driver car...and rarely sees action save on acceptable weekends and the occasional future trip down to Moroso Speedway. Erson recommends a 3000 stall for this cam. Anyone think this is too high for this mild of a build? Or perhaps this cam is too radical for this setup.
I'm estimating about 320-330 hp from this combo, which is fine. But I'm curious to see if I'm close here.
That cam is radical for ur setup, duration is high but lift is decent, lobe separation 110 is tight will be difficult to pass emmission, but u live in fl no emmission check there so its not a prblem, 320-330 hp at crank but dont expect at wheels though,
Back to ur question, 3000 stall is little tad high but i love high stall, i do have 2800 stall love it drives just like normal but at 1/2 throttle through u back in seat love that, but i suggest u install external tranny cooler in front of radiator for that 3000 stall.
If ur block is roller i will suggest lpe 211 or Tpis ZZ9, along with AFR 180 cc along with headers and good exhaust will put u easily 350-375 at crank and has excellent driveability both at track and street.

BUUT, with 67cc heads..might want to consider changing pistons, or having the heads milled..stock heads are 58cc, so you'll go from 9:1 to 7.5:1
Hmmm....how much would I need to get milled off of the heads to roughly approximate the 58cc chamber. Would I also need to get the intake base milled to compensate for the reduced deck height?
I called one of the local machine shops here in West Palm, they suggested that milling the heads to yield a 58cc chamber would lead to ptv clearance issues, and suggested switching to a 9cc dome piston with reliefs.
i agree with sami85la98, that cam is little to much for your combo, ask erson where that cam peaks, i bet it peaks above 55oo rpm, your tpi even with the big mouth intake and ported plenum is still going to run out of steam at 4800 rpm and that's pushing it.
I would rethink the cam, and forget milling the heads, you would have to mill a lot to get good compression. If you mill too much from the heads you have to worry about your intake properly aligning with the heads, and on top of that you might have re check proper push rod length. all this on top of having to recheck piston to valve cleareance, all of this extra work is going to cost you a lot of dough.
Well, the heads are on their way back to the seller. They were supposed to be 64cc chambers anyway. I'll have to do the same with the cam as well, unless I want to sell this intake and get the Miniram. But you're right, this cam peaks between 5500 and 6200. I originally bought it with the idea of getting the mr, but I got such a good deal on this intake package, I couldn't pass it up.
