This started about 2 weeks ago, having a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. When the tranny is cold it shifts pretty easy, almost like it slips into gear. But when it gets warm, I have to let off the gas to get it to shift and then it kicks into gear hard. Also, if I forget and step on the gas the car downshifts and rev's fast and high, but the tranny seems to be slipping then. This is the only time it seems to slip, from the hole it takes off like a rocket. I checked the fluid and it is slightly overfilled and I changed it about 8k miles ago and went to synthetic.
Could my governor be going out or is it caused by my fluid being a little overfilled?
If the transmission is overfilled with fluid it will cause the symptoms you describe.
When the car is driven for a while the internal gears that are submerged in the extra fluid whips the fluid into a froth. when this air (froth) is sucked into the pump there is an immediate loss of some of the preassure which sends a lower preassure signal to the second gear than it should get at the given MPH that it should shift and the transmisssion holds 1st gear until there is enough preassure in the lines.
This will also account for the slippage when it kickes down as there is air in the fluid.
When the tranny is cold it works normally as there is no air in the fluid.
Drain the excess fluid from the transmission and see if this cures the problem.
