I am going to remove the water pump "frisbee" tomorrow. Do I just remove the bolts and remove the disc? Do the bolts need to go back in? Any good reason NOT to do this? I assume (and we all know the danger that goes along with assumptions) that this is just a balancer/damper of some sort? Thanks, Bob
I find it extremely hard to belive that it takes 10 hp just to spin that disc!
If that were true, just imagine how much it takes to spin a flywheel!
Must be atleast 500!
Just a thought.
I am not sure if all L98's had the frisbee, but my 89 had it. My water pump has studs that hold the pulley and frisbee on. I just unbolted the frisbee and put the bolts back on the pulley.
From what I understand the "frisbee" is there to reduce the torsional stresses :smash: on the alternator and drive brackets. I think at least one person wrote in that he removed the frisbee and then notice the bracket cracked near the alternator
EEK! Well, We will see what happens. I got the frisbee of with no real problems, and while it is heavy I also find it hard to believe it takes 10 hp to spin that disk. it might be worth 2 or 3 tho, and they all add up. Plus it is much easier to see timing marks, etc, now. Thanks for the help guys. I'll get back to ya if I have probs as a result of this. Later, Bob
