Default Mufflers again

I've gone through the archives and can't quite come up with an answer. Looking for mufflers that will sound off when my foot's in it, but then shut up when the cruise is on. The descriptions on the corsa system would seem to be just what I am looking for. The only problem is that I don't want to change the entire exhaust system, just the mufflers. The engine in wife's '95 coupe is stock except for 1.6 roller rocker arms. Might reprogram the computer, but that's about it. I don't think that $1000 for the corsa system would be money well spent. Not looking for a performance increase, just a little better sound when the foot gets heavy. I'd just like the exhaust sound to disappear when the cruise is set. Help appreciated.

Default Force II's?

I've seen 30,40,50,70,80, and Delta Flows, but no Force II's. Where are they available?

Got them from Summit. They come as a cat-back with rear y pipe though. Whisper quiet cruising around town. Loud when you get on it. I'm considering switching out the mufflers for a set of custom fit elimitators with tips. I like loud all the time. To me they are too quiet off throttle. But that sounds like what you are looking for. We all have different tastes.

I have a 95 Lt1 6 speed and last year I replaced the stock mufflers with Flowmasters (I'm not sure of the series). Mufflex recommended them. IMO they made the car sound like $%@^ from the inside, although the car does sound mean from the outside. The interior resonance that they create between 1600-2200 is extremely annoying to me. This means that when you are cruising on the highway in 6th gear, the car will be in the 1600-2200 rpm range unless you are well past 75 mph (I leave it in 5th now to cruise between 60-70). If you are cruising around the back roads in 5th gear at around 40-50 you'll be in that 1600-2200 rpm range still getting a headache from the resonance (I often leave the car in 4th now to keep the revs up over 2200 rpm). This kills the gas mileage.

I just had a set of EM LTs and randon tech cats installed. The resonance range seems to have been reduce slightly to about 1700-2000. But in that range it is still very annoying, although it is not worse with the headers.

I have investigated this issue on this Forum and the only exhaust system without a report of this annoying resonance in an Lt1 Vette is the Corsa (and the stock mufflers). Although some people have reported other mufflers/exhaust systems that allegedly do not cause interior resonance, I also seem to run across another person who says the opposite. If you find a muffler that does not cause interior resonance, let me know. Meanwhile, I am contemplating putting stock mufflers back on my car. Good Luck

That's exactly what I gleaned from combing through the archives. Guess I'll stick with stock for now. The mufflers on our vette look almost new. I'd hate to gas axe perfectly good mufflers off, spend money on new muffs only to get a bunch of resonance at cruise.

Tried looking at just replacing the mufflers as well. Almost the same idea - good sound when you accelerate and quiet when cursing around town. 94 automatic daily driver

Installed a set of Flowmaster 40's and hated it. Great sound on take off but the interior noise was causing me headaches (after two days). Spend $450.00 for install, mufflers, de-install and back to stock. Boy did I learn my lesson. Hated loosing all the money. The wife almost made me sleep on the couch.

I'd keep the stock setup. Just my advice.

Exhaust cut-out's with QTEC electric door's. You can stick them right before the mufflers. You can go from almost an open header sound (no muffler) to stock quiet, or anywhere in between with the flip of a switch.

For what you are trying to accomplish, muffler eliminators may be an option.

I've actually heard good things about going this route. Pretty docile until you gun it. And, the price...

Or option #2...

"I just took it to a muffler shop and they used their blow torch and took them off right before they start. Then they bent pipes and welded them on with my stock tips for about $100." taken from another thread

If you want ones that are quiet at idle/part throttle but beasty at WFO, Magnaflows are hard to beat.

I wonder if CORSA would give us a price on just the mufflers if we got enough people together to make it worthwhile for them?

I wanted to call and ask then directly but never see a phone number for them

I cut my mufflers off on my LT-1 and they sound no where like you describe as "almost an open header sound". Repeat, this is with an LT-1, A4, stock exhaust from the manifolds back past the central resonator. without any mufflers. The car has a nice low mellow rumble at ide, and increasingly get louders up and through WOT. It sounds awesome at WOT or at higher revs. It will give resonance and a slight drone around 1500 to 1800 or so, or when lugging the engine in OD but is quite mild compared to other exhaust sustems I have heard on other cars like "Loud Mouth" systems for C5 and even some Corsas are louder at RPM. I actually wish mine sounded a little meaner!!!

I suggest eliminators , pretty tame at cruise and a bit of a roar at WOT...

Default Flowmaster Force II's

They are available from Summit with out having to buy the whole cat back system. 86pacer suggested these in a previous post. Still 350 bones plus shipping just for the muffs. Sure wish someone was running these on a stock LT1 to confirm the lack of drone/resonance.

Just so you know, I have the B&B catback, 3" version, and it is much deeper than the Corsa sound, but does have a little resonance in that cruise range. The resonance is deeper and is not objectionable to me. The newer B&B catbacks are quieter than the original set ups which nobody could stand. After having them for about 2 years now, I wish they were as loud and fun as my stock exhaust with elims on it. That was a great sound to me, but I wouldn't want to take a long trip with the top up, I'd need ear plugs and a bottle of asprin.

The Force II is a sweet sounding system. It's based on the 50 series mufflers which are much more liveable than the ratty sounding 40s. It's a much cheaper system than the Corsas too, which are also very nice. I've not actually heard the Magnaflows, to the best of my knowledge, but have generally read here that most people are happy with them from a resonance standpoint. Although they are still not currently available, as far as I know, I would think that the Power Effects system would be very nice on a stock engine too. On my modified engine, they are very mellow on the highway with the mufflers set on the quietest setting. Above 70 MPH, they are nearly as quiet as stock from inside the car. But with the mufflers on any of the six settings, you can always hear it when you get on the 'fun' pedal!

ive got the B&B 3" system with a 3" MTI X-pipe for a C5 instead of the resonator from the b&b kit. i also have TPIS longtubes and no cats. this combo is the sweetest i have heard with mufflers.... very quiet inside and barely noticible at cruise @any rpm... but when you open it up!!!! damn!!!! it sounds like a ferrari and a 69 Z-28 mixed together. kind of that high stung metallic sound, but with a little muscle-car rumble.

btw- the stock system is welded from the slip-on part all the way back, so if you decide to just replace the mufflers, you will need to cut the exhaust right before them.

If it were me, Id use either stock, Corsa, or the LT1 muffler by dynomax. They have a factory tip on them and I know them to be very quiet and flow well..
I love the flos, but I have to admit, even the Delta Flo 50's have some resonance. wouldnt mind so much if the motor werent in that rpm range all the time, but regardless of the gear I get it.
