This past weekend , I could not open my hood with the hood latch. Only one side was popping open(drivers), the passenger side would not even budge.
I looked at the hood latch and noticed that there are 2 cables attached to it. I am guessing 1 for each side of the hood. The passenger cable is broken at the latch. I can grab the cable with plyers and pull it on it to open the passenger side of the hood.
Do I need a new cable or latch or both ? Has anyone replaced these cables ? Is it a hard job to do ? Any help please.
I had the same problem, I went 2 raise me hood up and nothing happened I thought that the cables broke. But what happened was there’s a little rod that holds the latch in place, and when I pulled the latch I pulled it at an angle and it wouldn’t open. I just slid the rod back through and pulled the latch and the hood opened. Check 2 see if this has happened 2 U’rs.
MAD vette supply carries a tool that will open your hood if say in your situation the cable breaks,I try to keep mine greased and this eases the pressure needed to open the hood.
changing the cable itself on my 87 was no big deal, but make sure its adjusted properly, or once you close it, it'll be locked down and you'll have the same problem again, even with the new cable.
