I have the Moates Flash & Burn as well as the adaptor to read the stock chips. However, only one of the "read" settings will read the stock chip. When I review the stock chip bin file, it doesn't look right??
Can anyone help me determine the proper manual settings to read the stock ECM?
Also, can I tell loading a saved bin to turner pro if it is valid?
What year car/what ECM? You need to select the correct size chip when reading. Also need to verify the ECM mask is correct for the bin to make sense when you open it.
After some emails w/ Craig Moates I've got some things figured out. My bone stock ECM reads just fine & I was able to mod my fan temps down, burn to another chip & all is well. However, I also have a Formato aftermaket ECM that looks stock but I'm seeing now is NOT. Hidden under a layer of black silicone is where they cut & jumpered a couple of pins on the EPROM. Looks like pin 2 to pin 28?? I'm having to dig deep in my memory history on the pin numbers from college when we studied chips for a few weeks. Anyone know what that is doing & if I unjumper will be able to read that chip??
Sorry, ECM is from a 1990, 1227727 I'm guessing as stickers are long gone off the outside of the box. The 8D bin mask appears to work fine on the chip I can read. Just for Formato version that they have effectively locked me out of... for now anyway...
Woo hoo!!! I got it!!! Removed the jumper wire & repaired the two cut pins on the prom chip. Read it just fine & used that info to adjust a stock bin file I had. Will be testing that tomorrow but the stock bin I adjusted last night to lower fan on/off temps worked just fine!!!
I can now say that I've burned my own chip!!! Baby steps but steps non the less!!
