Default Firewall harness connections. Any experiance??

I have intermittant electrical problems with my electrical system, but when chasing the wiring, either under the hood or the dash, I find no problems there. I suspect that I may have a bad connection at the firewall connection. I am pretty sure these have not been disturbed since the car was built but there is always the possiability of corrosion or breakage with age.

These firewall connections have always been taboo for me. Never pulled one apart before. Has anyone done this, who can forewarn me of any intrensic problems, common mistakes, etc., that await me when I mess with these things?? Advice??

There easy to disconnect-now-Gordon Killebrew has wrote about this being a potential problem-especially if your tach is acting up. What you're looking for is water! You're gonna see some blackish looking grease=that's an anti corrosive-if you see evidence of water just blow it out and reconnect-apparently GM did not seal the parameter of the connection which can allow water to enter-also your cowling drip tube should be diverted away from the connection-Gordon says to seal the top and sides.

I believe in order to disassemble it there are screws that hold the inside connector to the engine compartment connector. Access is on the inside of the car and hard to see.

According to your profile you have an 1980 C3

Are the firewall connectors the same?
