Ok, standing at the back of the car looking down the centerline of the TPI intake and then the centerline of the hood crease, it looks as though the engine is offset to the right ( passenger side ) about an inch or inch and a half. Is this correct? I know the car has never been in a major accident so should I start looking at posible broken motor mounts? Or is this totally correct? If it is correct, why would Chevrolet offset the motor and not put it directly on the centerline? newbie here so bear with me. thanks
it sould be like that..but im not 100% sure, but its to offset weight for racing..drivers wieght so the engines moved to the pass. side an 1" or so to give the pasengerside even wight.
I noted this on an earlier C4 FI post regarding a vertical flow IC and the fact that the discharge to the TB is offset to the passenger side by 3/4". The persons that replied said that it had been done by GM to account for weight bias when no passenger is in the car.
All rear wheel drive/front engine automobiles have the drive line offset, either by moving the engine or differential off center. I have seen engineering papers on this but forget most of the details. I believe it has to do with sympethtic vibrations the car is subjected to if everything is perfectly centered and something less than perfect balance is maintained. It relates to the direction of rotation of the engine and the torque imposed onto the chasis and other structural components.
The few times I have ever been a passenger in my car, there is like NO foot room on that side. I think part of that is room for the auto trans (capability anyway w/ my MN6). Looking from under there is a lot of open air in that area.
I am new to the use of any forum. And I have a question I have a 84 coupe auto vette and trying to see if a rear dana 60 out of a dodge picup with its off set will fit evenly?
