hey guys, i had my tires balanced and my car still shakes pretty bad, especially at high way speeds. what could it be, im thinking my shocks are so warn out they jsut cant contol the rebound of the tires.
Questions: did this just come on suddenly? has it been getting progressively worse? have you changed anything relative to the suspension prior to this happening, i.e., new tires, wheels, brakes, etc.? how many miles on the suspension, brake and tire components since last changed/repaired? can you feel it in the steering, or in the seat? rotated tires (if same size) lately? did you do hunter road force balancing? any flats before, after?

it was a progressive thing, i got new tires months ago and before that my car would shake also, i thought it was a bad balancing so i got them blalanced again and it didnt help, everything on my brakes/suspension is stock except the rotors and it has 103k miles on it.
Start checking your universal joints in the driveshaft and the halfshafts.
Either of these will cause a vibration that gets worse the faster you go.
Hope this helps

I have the exact same problem its fine until i hit 70mph. Has nothing to do with the rpm. ONly in a straightline. IM thinking mine is the suspension because it take my car forever to regain its composure when i hit a large bump in the road. Like a dip before a bridge.
That happened to me with my 92's sawblades rims. The rims were bent. The shop took them to a machine shop to straight them up. It worked great, the shaking went away. Like you....I bought new tires, balancing, balancing, balancing. This would be an excellent opportunity to chrome your wheels or to upgrade to ZR1 or C5 wheels

thanks in advance guys
I recently fixed the last bit of vibration on my car. It was a combination of things involving the wheels... My aftermarket wheels were installed by a tire company and I also got brand new wheel bearings. Apparently no one lubricated the face around the lugs that meets to the wheels (causing a situation where the lugs nuts can be very very tight, but the wheel still will be loose without the surface lubricated. Also - I found out that the center nut wasn't torqued properly (after the lubrication didn't fix all of the problem - - - It knocked sometimes too). I asked the chevy dealer what the torque was and they told me 118lbs on the center nut for a 95 (maybe the same for other years as well - not sure). After that the problem was fixed. Of course, I have no idea whether or not you are having a similar problem. But I can tell you for certain that the "professional" shops don't always know what they are doing. Not a bad idea to check if you've got the tools.

Wow. I'm having the exact same problem! I just figured it to be either the tire balance (which I had done a few months ago..thinking maybe a weight came off) or the alignment. A hell of a lot more to look at to get the problem truly corrected.
