I've heard from a friend that each spray from nitrous adds about 10k miles to the engine. Yet I've heard from another person who has had nitrous says that that's not true and that he's sprayed countless times. I've noticed a few members in here have nitrous on their vettes and was wondering if they could confirm anything for me. I want to do quite a bit to my car before I go touching the stuff, but I was just curious so that I could know what my options are in the future.
10K miles each time you spray!!! If that is the case, I know cars with close to 5,000,000 miles on it and probably more!!!
In other words, NO, it is not true!
Well, according to your friend, I have about 1,000,000 miles on my vette. It all depends upon how much and how often. Surely your are not going to be on the gas back forth to work, cruising around town, going to the mall, etc, etc, etc. But if you venture to the track a couple of times a month and make 5-10 passes(your times will start to really fall off after 5 runs or so on a typical 10 pound bottle) with a nitrous system developed for a STOCK application, also providing that your fuel system(pump, injectors, etc) is in proper working order, then you shouldn't experience any problems. Where people get into trouble is when their car experience a lean condition. Nitrous + not enough fuel = :U . However there are safety devices on the market to help alleviate this problem and take some of the guess work out. If you drag race, you can expect to take a second off of your e.t..
That means that I have over 280,000 miles on my engine!
There is a difference of opinion on the board about nitrous.
If you are using it for an occasional street race or at the track (without great consistency) it is a good product.
If you are looking to be competitive in bracket racing or if you plan on needing the horsepower frequently, an engine build up is a better route.
I have been running 150hp shot for about 2 years. I am changing to a 100hp shot in the next week or two. I have had NO problems (I will now that I mentioned it) but want to move down to the 100 shot as additional insurance.
