Starter Question
I'm having a problem with my starter.
First of all its on a SBC 400 mated to a 700R4.
It seem that the start is pushing out all the way (Tested the stater and messured the distance it comes out) and is almost catching the flexplate. Sometimes the stater sometimes catches, It looks like the stater is only grabbing 1/16" on the flexplate
(Starter is for 168T and the Flexplate is a 168T - Not warped).
It seems that the started needs to moved towards the transmission about .25". (That about center of the flexplate)
Has anyone have the problem or is it just me...

The stock starter has a long nose ,on the original corvette .
I would susspect that with the 400 small block you just need a standard old time starter and flywheel.I hope you instlled the internally balanced flywheel and not the stock externially balanced one.
