Brake Squeel/Shim Kit
I just replaced the pads and rotors on my 86. The old pads were installed with a shim kit that I had to destroy in order to get the old pads out (siliconed in). With my new stuff, I get a brake squeel at about half pedal pressure. I see some suppliers sell a shim kit, but I'm not sure on the install procedures (how to determine where and how much to shim), and it isn't listed in my Haynes manual. I hate pulling up to a light with these things sqeakin'....it just doesn't make the car look good!

Sometimes it's the pads. what brand of pads? If the rotors weren't crosshatched tha pads may not have seated well. Did you lube the caliper slides/areas the pads ride on the calipers and brackets with anti-seize or something similar? I've rarely seen it be because of lack of these shims. They make a spray brake quiet you can coat the backs of the pads with that works well also.

In all honesty, I didn' lube the calipers, I'm going to go back and do that when I change the half-shaft joints when I pull the diff. The rotor and pads are Raybestos (I'm 95% sure of my memory here). I've never had this result on a brake change I've done before. As a habit, I always install new rotors when I change pads.
