sorry to bring this up again but i cant find it in the archives. which hatch vent and from who is the best to get? i remeber reading that the polymer one from mad seemed to break easy. thanks for your help!!!
Scorp had his a long time before I got mine. Could have been made from a different material. I tried to rethread mine, but the metal wasn't good enough to do it. Other forum members have had trouble with this vent.. pieces cracking and deforming, for example.
Actually, Scorp.. Check to see if your vent is magnetic..
is it?
I have a "VENTMASTER" Inc. brand. Had it about two years. It is solid steel and should never fail under any normal useage. I ordered it by mail from Ventmaster Inc., P.O. Box 7086, Greenwood, IN 46142-7086. For 1984 thru 1996 the price was $35.00 which included shipping costs. I thought it a bit pricey, but when I got it and realized it would last forever, the price seemed reasonable. BTW, I have no connection to the company. Just MHO.
Do not get the easy twist on, twist off one that is sold in Ekler's and other catalogs. I had this and it bent the brackett that holds my light switch for the hatch. It bent it just enough that when I put the cover on the car for the night the lights where off, but during the night with the temp change and maybe a little wind was just enough to case the lights to come on which set of the alarm in the middle of the night.
not lookin good .... because i havent seen anything in the catalogue's other than whats been described, is there anything else or is it maybe a throw away gimmick ?
I bought the nicer metal one from Corvette Central and it's pretty good. However, I haven't used it more than twice this summer since I had the mirror deflectors that come on the roadsters installed this winter. With the mirror deflectors on seems to be more wind on my neck with the vent hatch in. The mirror deflectors seem to make enough of a difference to me, alot less inside turbulence so it's not even worth messin with the hatch vent device anymore. Maybe I'll sell my hatch vent?
Serious though, it took me a long time and my boss was not to happy.I was thinking of doing up some prints for people if they were interested in making one of there own.
Don't get the "heavy duty hatch vent" from Eckler's
its softer than clay.
I too have that one and it's definitely el-cheapo pot metal (almost seems like a lead casting).
Hasn't broken yet but every time I install and remove it I have to brush off metal shavings.
well, i guess i had no choice because the only one available in the whole usa is the vent master 2 piece. every other kind is sold out!!!!! so i ordered it and we will see what happens, wont be the first thing to break , thats for sure!!! thanks for all the input guys and if ya ever make more of those homemade ones, you have a customer!!
