I am looking into buying an early C4 (85-> ) and am looking at modifying it. My goal would be to touch a 200mph top speed and preferrably not lose any quickness in the car. Preferrably I would like to still break 0-60 under 5. Besides that the chassis would have to be setup for circuit driving (though I will mainly use it at the German Autobahns). And I would like to use a 6-speed. Oh, and big brakes of course.
Any thoughts on this? Has this been done before? (I expect it has been.) What would be my best route to take? Can it be done with the small block or should I really just swap in GM's new reproduction ZL-1 block with a supercharger and go from there?
Why don't I choose a later model? Well, I was offered an 85, but I have actually been offered an 89 today at a better price even. The trouble is finding a decent car to start with. They are quite thin on the ground here in the Netherlands, so that is why I first thought I'd start with the earlier one.
Still, if it were an 89, what are the thoughts on tuning?
I would recommend the 89 over the 85. The brakes will accept the larger 13" ones without alot of extra work. Plus, 6sp manuals came after 89, so you won't have to mess with the weaker 4+3s.
Sounds like a fun project Keep us informed on how you do. Good luck.
Ok, so the hassle is less, but I have just come across another dilemma. The 84 had the z51 chassis. It handles better than the 89 and handling is a big part of the project...
