After weeks of troubleshooting my erratic idle and looking for vacuum leaks, I finally directed the homemade propane leak checker at an injector base, and viola. A significant idle increase. Here's the rub: I'm using a TPIS Bigmouth intake with Ferd's Motor Spurts 24# injectors. These injectors don't have the same retainer clip placement groove as the OEM. With the standard manifold they will work OK. But the TPIS manifold does not let the injector seat as deeply and results in leaks past the injector O-rings. But not on all of the injectors. Solution: Take it all apart and use a Dremel tool to route out the existing upper partial clip groove on the injectors and them move the retainers up. This should allow the injectors to seat lower into the manifold ports and stop the air infiltration. I hope!
This is a known problem with the TPIS/Edelbrock manifolds, especially when used with SVO injectors. I forget what most people did to solve the problem, but I believe it involved using a thin spacer of sorts. You may want to search the archives over at http://www.thirdgen.org. I'm sure you'll find plenty of answers.
The SVO injectors come stock with a small O-ring top and bottom. GM has new (light blue) injector O-rings that are thicker, and seem to seal the injectors better. You can get a set of the GM O-rings from TLD for about $12. Might want to try those before carving up the SVO's.
