Default something interesting

my car locks randomely sometimes sitting still the driver door locks unlocks etc... the air conditiong heater cant be turned off sometimes. The speedometer dims in and out. The windshield wipers dont work sometimes you have to spray the windshield wiper fluid then they work. My windo is stuck down although in process of finishing it.

Im just wondering if maybe my car is just one big electronical mess that is gonna take me months nad 2k to get right. any ideas??

Newly acquired by you - or old favorite with brand new wierd problems? It almost sounds like it could use a good exorcism.

Everything you list is electrical, and loss of ground appears to be a common problem with these cars. Any chance it's a "flood special" from the southern coast? Done anything new to it lately?

I second that! You could always just rip out the entire harness... thats what I did.... but i'm doing an LS1 swap with an Autometer or Z06 gauge cluster.... that and I just like wiring I guess. lol

I would find all of the ground distribution points and dissassemble and clean then. On a plastic car, many problems are ground related. You may find that many of your circuits share ground points. Helms book shows them all if I recall correctly.

I concur with all of the above. Grounds is the place to start.

I have to agree with the majority, it sounds like a grounding issue.

The door locking and unlocking radomly is a PKE issue and it will only get worse with time. Mine did this a few times and got progressively worse resulting in the hatch opening by itself while I was driving one day !! So, I would either replace the PKE module or disable it. This is a little tricky as if you remove the module entirely, your power locks will not work. So if you leave it in there and disconnect the larger harness, the PKE is not funtional and the locks still work. Perhaps someone else can chime in with more details for you.

If that was his only problem, I would agree.

The PKE module is behind the driver info center inside the dashboard and it is a PITA to get to. There are two ways to get to it:

1) Remove upper dash pad

2) Remove radio bezel, a/c controls, and DIC and use a dremel to cut out a space to remove it

I opted for the second one as the thought of removing the upper dash pad without breaking something and trying to get it to fit correctly again didn't seem too plausible.
