I'm in the process of building my new engine. :D I'm wondering if my stock chip will work. I was gonna buy Hooker 2149's, but if my money is better spent on a chip I'll do that. I know doing both would yield better results...see my sig for details. fyi the valves are 2.02"/1.60"
ZZ9 cam will definitely want a new program - don't buy off the shelf crap. Unfortunately, it'll also want headers and putting headers on after the chip is tuned will throw off the tune. Welcome to hot-rodding.
When i was buying my zz4, I called Ed Wright. He said stock chip would work and car would run, but not as fast as it could. He advised to put motor in first then call him with details on how it operated, so chip could be made. I then called Formato chips in florida and was given advise on what to do all at once (including headers TPIS) and convertor. Formato made an excellant chip that went in same time as motor, and worked great! Then from the 420lbs of torque at 20 mph the 700r4 with 20k miles lost 3rd and 4th after 2 weeks and 500 miles. motor was still in break in period and didnt even make it too track. Car is now at Level Ten in NJ gettin the "bullet proof" transmission. Pat at level ten tells me that that at a 20 mph roll and floorin it my car leaves a 50 foot patch of rear tire. Guess, I will need new rear tires soon. Pickin car up this weekend. :yesnod: :D
