Default Tranny Question.

What year vettes did the 700R4 tranny come in? Was it 84-93? or is it something different. I'm shopping for a Tranny.

The c4 vette tranny is special to the vettes. yes the 700r4 was in the c4 from 84 to mid 93. the vette trannys have a different servo and tailshaft. Ijust had the trans in my dads 90 rebuilt and it was a 700r4

Make sure you get a 700R4 from a Vette, the tail is different on the Vette Tranny. If you get one from an Iroc or TA, you will have to cut the output shaft and buy a Vette Tail.

The years are from 84-93, I believe. But you want an 87 and above model, as they are stronger and have better internals.

C4...

Call Gran Trans tomorrow. You won't be disappointed. My motor is putting out 480 foot pounds of torque... It's holding up nicely. They do a tremendous job.

The one exception to this is the 93. I dont know what the difference is, but the factory service manual calls it a 4L60. I know it is not the 4L60E (electronic version) It does use a TV cable.

GM changed the name of the 700r4 to that new designation without the "E" for electronic on the end. While checkin on transmissions recently myself, I checked on the Jet made one, the TCI one, the hi-perf Jasper one, the Carr one, and finally the Level Ten one. Check out http://www.levelten.com. The prices seem to vary from 995 for JET to 1200 for discount GM one, to 2245 for Levelten. Also check for cost of torque convertor ( sometimes not included and very desirable). I have been through 4 GM ones in 108k miles, never again. I admit, I am rough on trannys. Worse on clutches.
