Default Problem with new Brake Booster Install - Help

I just unstalled a new Brake Booster on my 1994 Polo 6spd coupe. It seemed fine upon testing the brakes yesterday. But today It seems that the brakes are dragging. Upons checking the brakes they are heating up more then normal and I can feel drag by testing car in nuetral on incline.

Is there an adjustment on the booster and how do I adjust? Dont want to wreck my pads and rotors?

Pull the master cylinder loose and adjust the shaft on the booster.

The brakes aren't able to release fully if there's not a bit of freeplay in it. The longer you drive and use the brakes, the more residual pressure is built up causing the dragging.

Just responded to another post about boosters. The rod is adjustable-it's sounds like it is adjusted to LONG.That was my experience. It's a threaded rod, you need to back it off some-I haven't checked and don't know if a length is published-but have experienced the exact same thing.I do believe there is a measurement for the pedal though.

If you look on your install instructions, there should be a piece about adjusting the brakes.

if not, I can give you some help.

Take off the master cylinder from the booster and pull it away from the booster.
You will see a bolt going into the booster, it will have a nut on it to keep it from turning.
put a wrench on the bolt to hold it and another on the nut and loosen the nut.

From there I don't remember which way you need to turn the bolt, I think I turned mine counter clockwise about 2-3 turns.
Someone else will know for sure.

Good luck!!

OK - I'll pull the MC and try and adjust it and see if I can adjust the rod.

Thanks

I had this problem with my Camaro, try removing the vacumm from the booster and drive the car. The brakes will be REALLY hard to use but if the sticking goes away it could be a bad booster.

This is what you need to do. The rod is too long, and needs to be shortened so that the reservoir ports will be exposed when the pedal is fully retracted (released). If the ports are covered when the pedal is fully retracted, the fluid that's under pressure in the lines can't bleed back up into the reservoir, and the brakes will drag due to the residual pressure in the lines.

The booster should have come with instructions about how to measure/adjust the rod. If not, set it to the same length as the booster you removed, and it should come out about right.

Be well,

SJW

Adusted the Booster Rod bolt - it took two trys but, all is well.. Brakes stopping great, no drag, brake lights work and so does cruise control.

Im sure thats about $300-$500 saved by doing the Brake Booster myself.

Thanks everyone for all your help.
