After my 92 is running a while, the check ASR and sys lights come on. I can not restart the car and it will just crank. It is showing a code 42. Anyone else have this problem and any suggestions on how to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks.
I had this exact problem with ASR and sys lights on my 92 and the same code 42 - Electronic Spark Timing Circuit (grounded circuit).
My tach also jumped around when this problem occured while driving as the connection to the Ignition Controm Module (or Driver) also has the tach filter circuit.
The problem was intermittant with mine when car would crank but not start because there was no fire to the plugs.
The problem with mine was a sloppy connection at the ICM (little black box bolted to the coil bracket on my LT1, or inside distributor on L98).
I had lost the ruber weather seal on the plug and the vibrations caused the contacts to open enough for then to lose contact withh the ground.
This ground goes directly to the front of the left cylinder head by the water pump.
Your problem is either:
1. Bad connection to ICM
2. Bad connection to ground on cylender head.
3. Broken wire between ICM and ground, or
4 Bad ICM.
