I'm not sure of the setup on the '90 but on my '86 sport seats you can remove the side bolsters without removing the backs. If you stick your finger in the seam between the bolster and seat back, there are four or five hog rings along the seam attaching the bolsters to the seat backs. If you cut these metal rings, the bolster peels outward exposing a stapled plastic strip. If you remove the staples, the bolsters come right off leaving the foam intact. The installation is the reverse of the above. You will need a strong staple gun to drive staples through the seat frame. I drilled pilot holes a used small screws to fasten the plastic strip to the frame. You will also need new hog rings and a hog ring plier to re-install the bolsters to the seat back. I hope this helps. Also, some members have switched bolsters with the passenger side which usually has less wear if any. If you put the drivers door side bolster on the passenger console side, it's almost totally hidden where it is damaged.

Re: Seat cushion removal (CG77VETTE)
These are the sports seats with the adjustable side bolsters, I got the two side clips, it's just the clip at the top that I can not see or feel to get to.
Glad you figured it out JeffVette. By the way, how are you repairing the side bolster? I have a 1990 too and the side bolster wear glares at me whenever I open the door, marring an otherwise beautiful interior. My seats are leather, but I believe the bolster material is Vinyl. Are you replacing the entire seat cover kit or having the bolster recovered? Thanks for any tips.
