I put in my AFPR this afternoon. Got it all adjusted. FINALLY got the car back together without any air leaks I must say that my idle has never been so nice! The smoke coming from my mufflers isn't there anymore, either!
I have a quick question, though (I didn't want this to be a question post, but since I'm thinking about it, I don't want to waste board space..)
When I adjusted the AFPR, I had the vaccuum line off of it, as instructed. I set it to about 45PSI. As soon as I put the vaccuum line back on, it dropped to below 40, but still reacted just as it had when I had it at about 45PSI. When I had it below 40PSI with the vaccuum line off, it wouldn't even start.
Sounds about right. At 40 with the vacuum off it would be 35 with it on and that is a little low.It should be around 40psi with it on.
Maybe I didn't have the gauge on properly? I noticed that my PSI was dropping slightly fast when the car was turned off. I doubt it's a fuel injector issue, because I just replaced all 8 about 6 months ago.
Your car should still start with 30 psi or so in the rail.It may not run that good but something doesnt seem to be right if it cannot start with it under 40 psi.Is your feul pump supplying enough fuel all the time?
Just something to check.Either way, glad to hear its running better.
Your pressure should hit 40 or so and STAY there for a while. If it drops fast on the gauge, you got a weak pump or possible injector leak.Let me correct myself, the check valve in the pump would be bad.Do be sure your pump is flowing enough fuel when the car is running and doesnt leak back fast either.

hmm.. I'll have to look into that. I was figuring my fuel pump was bad at the very beginning, when I first got my car. However, I ruled out that possibility because of how much of a pressure I get when I open the gas cover when I fuel up.. I heard that if the pump was bad, you wouldn't get too much pressure back there.

Not true for that either...the pressure from your tank is gas vapors.I had a blocked vapor return line from the charcoal cannister to the gas tank.It caused a tremendous amount of pressure when taking the gas cap off.All efi cars have some pressure when removing the cap,but if its abnormal or is very hot as well, make sure the vapor recovery is working right.Mine was so bad in the summer time it woudl whoosh for a long time and the gas tank felt very hot to the touch.Once I fixed the problem,it went cool and didnt have so much pressure anymore.
