Has anyone seen this in the new MAD catalog? It is a 1" spacer that goes between the TB and the plenum. Do you guys think it actually works? It claims a 20 HP gain, more torque and improved mpg. Would you have to modify the intake duct because of the length of the TB after this is added?
You would have to dyno before and after to tell for sure, but it sure makes a heck of a big difference on a carburated motor. Made 19 horse power on a 13:1 motor. So if *anything* at all, my guess is a minimal gain on a stock motor.
On a carb, the spacer helps a lot with air/fuel distribution (depending on the style and motor) and a little with heat. Our TBs have nothing to do with fuel distribution, so the only gains would come from a little insulation from the heated TB and a ever so slight increase in plenum volume. You probably wouldn't see a gain on a dyno and might run into problems with cable routing. Save your money.
90 Callaway says it the best about this piece of junk. Gee one inch is worth 20 horsepower, then two inches should get you 40 horsepower
I believed the airfoil :bs . cause it looked good. It wasn't worth the effort to install it let alone the money paid out to get it. It won't improve anything by taking it out, so it goes along for the ride
No these do not work. No fuel passes through them. It does increase your volume area inside the plenum, but not enough to even give a horsepower. Ask those who have nitrous plates on there motors if it makes any difference when the gas is turned off. Spend your money on a bigger throttle body to get more air into the engine and don't waste it on gimmicks like a throttle body spacer for a PFI car.
I agree on the spacer (as per my earlier post), but I also say save your money on mods like a bigger TB when your stock or near stock engine can't take the 700 cfm the 48mm will flow.
I'll say it again. If anyone wants to try one of these. Send me a print (drawing, picture, Cad file, I don't give a crap) & I will make you one out of 1" Phenolic for free. If someone takes me up on this I only plan on doing one for free! I don't think alot about them so I am not going to waste my time designing one. The ONLY catch is that you MUST do a before/ after dyno run & give the group the results !!!!
