I have an 86 vette with a 700r4 trans. I keep getting code 36 which says "Ignition system circuit error or Transaxle shift problem-4t60e transaxle." What do I to fix this problem.
Code 36 on a Vette refers to the MAF burn off relay. You may need to replace the two relays behind the battery that control the MAF. I recently had this happen.
There is a TSB from GM on this that has a lot of info on codes 33, 34 and 36 (All MAF issues) I don't have the users site that had it, but I'm sure someone does.
Had similar problem... :yesnod: ..without a long story ...it cost me a new MAS......and both relays.. :( ...but the good

The two relays in question are located behind the battery...on the fire wall...the outboard relay is the Mass Air Flow Sensor Relay and the inboard relay is the Mass Air Flow Sensor Burn Off Relay... :yesnod: ...It is best to replace both at the same time :yesnod: ...on my 89...both relays had the same part #.. :yesnod: ...p/n 14089936...cost from dealer was $16.00 apiece...I'm sure you can beat that price.. ...the MAS sensor itself , again from the dealer....was over.....I hate to say...$400.00 ... :cry...that was the last time I've been to the dealer :D
