Put the ZF tranny back in today and then noticed that my PS Pump was leaking,,, so I took the pump off and ordered a new one with all new hoses from The Last Detail
My question is this, has anyone been able to, or is there a way to extract the fluid from the rack, so it can filled with fresh clean fluid?
The best I can tell is that I could maybe pump new fluid in one line and force it out the other end, but do you need to turn the rack back and forth to circulate the new fluid, or what ?
It gets trapped in there... and do be honest, there isn't that much there. If you reinstall the pump without the return line, you can use the pump to flush the rack... but it will be messy and it won't take long. You will need help.
Bogus, good idea,, I cut one of the tubes off of the hose and I can clampt a long piece of tubing onto the hose, so when I crank the rack,,,,it will pump the fluid into a can.
You will still want someone inside the car to do the engine and the steering... it will drain that reserviour in no time flat!!!
Yeah, you don't want the pump to go dry. It gets sucked down fast when you're dumping it in a can while turning the wheel. Best with two people and at least a quart of PS fluid handy, maybe 2 if you want to completely flush it.
