I took my L98 for a spirited spin yesterday, nothing fancy, and came back looking under the hood and I noticed a little puddle of fuel under the #8 injector. A buddy of mine said the injector ORing might be failing. It's been in there for 20 years so I guess its time to change. What is the process and could it be any other possible issues? Thx
Yep, that would be my 'guess'. My LT1 injector removal is a lot simpler than yours. Someone will jump in with the procedure or refer to your FSM for it.

I know that it involves removing a portion of the intake but I'll let the L98 experts guide you further.
I'll tell Andy to get that cover and we'll get it on it's way to you.
You know thats the first time I've heard of a injector or o-ring developing a leak. They leak if the installer doesnt' get them on right or tears them. Anyway, you should be able to find a set of O-rings at your local parts store for around $3

Actually, I had 2 leaking (oem o-rings) on my 92 and found it by accident when I was chasing another problem. It happens.
I cranked her up tonight to move er into the garage and I looked at it again after running for 5min at idle and the same puddle was there. I am at the point now where I don't think it is a good idea to drive it anywhere until I fix!! If someone would chime in on the best way to get to the injector please do If not I will be going by the repair book! How much does a new set of injectors cost? I have never removed/installed injectors and I noticed someone said you could tear the ORing, don't want to do that so if some one can offer tips, shoot em over!

Alvin, what else do you think it could be? I am almost sure it is the ORing or the actual injector failing b/c the fuel is seeping from it. Everything else is dry.
Im no expert but ive checked into fuel injectors. The cheap ones are 250$$ and the better ones are around 350-400 just some qoutes. Hope you get that problem solved
To get at the injectors, remove the plenum, disconnect the fuel lines to the fuel rails, take the fuel rail bolts out and pull up on the rails. It is easier if you loosen the bolts to the runners and let them tilt outward. The injectors are held to the fuel rail by locking clips, rotate them (will only turn one way) and pull the injector from the rail (it'll be a hard pull). Put new O rings on the top and bottom of the injector, check the bottom O rings on all of the other injectors for cuts or missing rubber, replace as required. Lubricate the new O rings with engine oil, install in the rails and lock in place then reinstall the rails and reassemble the plenum & runners.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, I've just never seen it..
You should be able to get new o-rings from your local part store. Almost all injectors share the same o-ring.
i changed my injectors on my 89 vette and had to take apart the upper plennum. bought injectors from summit. accell . i did have leaking injectors on my ford truck a couple of diffrent times. the were leaking where the plastic was molded to the metal part of them. more than one of them.
Like Morley said, be sure to lubricate the new O rings with fresh engine oil when you install them. They nick easily and will give you a new fuel leak.
