I just replaced the blower motor and it is running but the cool air only trickles out the vents, the same for the heat & defrost, anyone have the same problem with ECC in their 1988 model year vette?I would like to fix it myself like always.where is the relay located ,and if the blower is running would the relay be the problem? it seems like the vent doors are not open.
Re: a/c fan with electronic climate control (88clearwatervette)
I had a similar problem. Turned out to be a leak in my vacuum down by the intake. One of those plastic connectors had a hole in it (from my car running hot).
Good Luck!
Re: a/c fan with electronic climate control (88clearwatervette)
Unfortunately, there isn't a relay. If the fan is blowing at high speed, check the underhood, 5 amp fuse. It's located on the firewall. If it's okay, you will need to troubleshoot the system. Blower speed is determined by low voltage inputs from the control assembly (dash unit) to an amplifier which is mounted inside the evaporator housing. Two connections sit on top of the housing. The smaller has a red wire which comes from the battery and powers up the amp. Make sure it has battery voltage and then jumper it to the hot lead on the blower motor. This should produce maximum blower speed. Next, set the a/c on econ, blower high, and check the brown wire in the larger connector for at least 6 volts. If 6 or greater, then your amp may be bad, but first check the voltage on the hot wire from the amp to the blower. With at least 6 volts on the input side, you should have 10 volts or greater to the blower at the above settings. If not check the connector and the lead wire for continuity. If you're getting less than 6 volts to the amp, then you will need to check continuity from the amp back to the assembly. If the wire is good, then the assembly may be bad. There are several other things to check - especially the ground from the blower to the frame and the courtesy and gages fuses, though if these were bad, you probably wouldn't have any blower speed at all. Hope this helps.
