Default Turbines vs Turbos

I just thought the forum would get a kick out of my new job.
I just started working for Altair Avionics www.altairavionics.com

We put engine monitors on aircraft, to predict when engines are going to have problems and fix them before them become bigger issues.

Work will be sending me to the Pratt plant soon to get training on these.

The PW100 is an advanced technology, fuel efficient turboprop engine designed to power 30 to 70 passenger regional transport, as well as utility and corporate aircraft.

The PW118 to PW127 series has grown to cover a wide range of power from 1800 shp to 2750 shp. The family «concept» of turbomachine and reduction gearbox modules has permitted the tailoring of engine models to meet the broad spectrum of performance requirements.

axial compressors like this one, like the one below, more more air, but they have limits on the pressure ratio. The centrifuge compressor, like the PW100 above will make more boost, but they have to spool up.

hey brian, odd questin but can you run jet-pros on diffrent fuel????

from what me and my dad know (he was a turbine blade designer on the RB211 that rolls built) we couldn't see why not. you would have to keep exhaust temps low to stop the turbine blades melting. but could it be done???

how about running them on methanol??? it runs cold and makes more products (thus making more power)! any ideas????

Chris.

You can get a turbine to run on anything that will pour. GM actually ran one with ground up coal!

The trick is the fuel management unit. Jet engines are finally going electronic. Things are slow to move in the aero world due to regulations. So you'll need to find someone who can remeter it for the fuel type you want to run.

cool! i thought they would have HUGE computers running the engines to max power and fuel econemy these days!!!!

so running say meth, would that make more power than notmal fuel???

Chris.

PS. there is nothing wrong with coal! and im not just saying that coz i work for the industry over here! lol coal fired power station over here used powdered coal and blow it in with air! it burns like gas.
