Default Miniram Owners----please Help Me!!

I got my miniram on my engine at the shop and the mechanics told me the thermostate housing will not fit. They told me that I'll need a housing that will come up 1.5" max before it starts to touch the Throttlebody. I was wondering where you guys got your thermo housings from, any particular dealer--any advise greatly appreciated. I did call TPIS, but they couldn't help me, they said they changed the miniram design and that I'll just have to hunt down a special thermo housing. I have the Miniram 2 model.

It was nearly 11 years ago but I had the same problem with my miniram II. The problem was that I was running an accel 1000 cfm TB instead of the TPIS unit. I believe the mechanic machined some of the mating surface off the Thermostat waterneck housing and removed the TB heater. I dont remember if he used the stock waterneck or the supplied low profile unit. He also didn't like the way the linkage hooked to the TB and redid a new bracket for the throttle and TV cable. I have pics somewhere I can post in a couple of days if needed.

AAhh, are the coolant line tubes of the casting removed from the bottom part of the throttle body?

I have no idea, but I can have that done if I need to, and just do the water bypass route.

You should only have one water entry in the front (the other is for the CTS)of the intake, so TB bypass is really part of the deal. On the bottom part of the TB, you will need to take off the bottom part of the casting (it also contains the IAC) What needs to be done is to cut around the IAC and remove all the rest of the casting. You will be leaving just the IAC and enough casting that (when veiwed from the bottom) leaves the air passages and a ridge line )in the casting) to seal it again . Gasket will then be trimmed to match. Mine is a mini II w/ a stock bored 52 mm TB, tpis w.neck, and no problems.
The linkage on the side for TV and cruise may also need to be modded (on my 90 yours will have to put it on to see). I had to drill a new set of holes almost al the way in the corner of that bracket to get it to go forward enough. (without doing this the TV cable will not have enough room to adjust and cruise cable will not go on at all).
I don't have a pic. other than it being installed , AGENT 86 has a good pic. that shows this mod. Hope this helps

What mseven said is correct. Remove everything but the IAC housing, and the factory water neck will fit without issue.

Well after running all over my county checking auto part stores and checking my "stock" thermo housing---I have Nothing that will work on this miniram. The thermo housing I have "stock" either points perfectly to the right (passengerside) of the car 180 degree OR perfectly to the left (driverside) has a long neck probably 3-3.5 inches (I'm not sure if this is stock) but thats what I had originally before engine rebuild. If I did point this to the left (it will be in the way of the smog pulley area and NO way around that, OR if pointed to the right then it points behind the AC compressor. Does anyone have a pic of what the stock looks like ? Maybe I have a different one thinking its stock. Clearance of the throttle is not going to be the problem once we cut off the nipple under the throttle--only problem is the thermo will NOT be pointing in the right direction. So finding a custom thermo housing is Now a priority. An companies out there sell custom parts like this ? I checked jegs/summit no luck.

Look at "My Corvette Photos", 2nd page and you will see how the water neck should point when bolted to the MRII. I am not sure if this interferes with the smog pump, as I no longer run this.

Thats not the same miniram I have, I have the manifold base with the thermostat housing sitting flat Level. Not mounted on the side like yours....Also I have the deleted smog pulley installed

EDIT:: I just noticed that the intake I was looking at on your webpage is a custom looking intake, but if your referring to the yellow miniram intake--I can't see the thermostate from those angles....any closeup shots ? thanks

You need a longer inlet tube and then cut the housing off at the base and rotate it as seen

Go pick up an extra thermo housing and cut the neck/inlet tube off of it and have it welded on to extend the tube as seen in the pic.

Then cut the dome off at the base and rotate it, then have it welded back on too.

Then make sure you get a shallow themostat, Stant #29306, or similar otherwise, the thermo will not open all of the way, the bottom of the termo will hit on the bottom of the thermo hole in the intake, and wont open all the way causing overheating.

wow, I didn't even think of that, but this sounds like a job...I'll see if the mechanic wants to do it, he does machine work too so I guess he'll know what to do.

What threw me off here is I did not understand you to mean that the water neck was a stock GM part, yes a stock GM will put it in the wrong direction. I have a pics on 'my pics', and more if nessesary.
TPIS sells the one you need, it is corvette water neck pn 500-600 and is $25.00. Regardless, the tubes will have to come off the bottom of the TB. I also have AIR delete, so I never tried to install with the extra plumbing.
LD85 did a nice job of fabbing one up, I would think with the time he put in it, a machinist/fabricator will want more than 25 bucks to do it.

I looked all over tpis' website--I couldn't find the thermo housing. I even spoke with the main guy at tpis and he said they don't sell a thermo housing

That is strange, on page 17 of their regular catalog under "Mini-Ram replacement parts" they show "pn.500-600 water neck for corvette @$25.00." I bought an entire set-up from them that included this part, and all hardware for the swap (not that long ago in the summer). When you call again ask for Chris or Jim, Myron Cotrell is the main guy, but an engine builder not usually tech. unless it is in reference to a build. I would then make sure to be specific to mini ram replacement parts (not to be cofused w/L98 water neck) give them the part # and site their own catalog.
The newest version of the web site is not even close to the regular catalog.
