Hey there. Ok First off, I'm a newb to the whole forum thing, so you might have to work with me a bit. Second, this is my first Corvette so you might need to work with me even more. Now the car and the question... Its an 89 auto vert all stock (as far as I know) And I've had it for about six months now. I love it but naturally, I have this urge to start tinkering with it now. So what kind of mods are gonna help me the most. I have a budget of around 1k for now. I use my car as a daily driver so Im not really looking to break the sound barrier...yet. Just trying to give the car a little bit more of an edge. Thanks for any input I can get.
Step 1.) Sit back, read, and absorb, all you can from this forum. Soon you will get a sense of what people are talking about and what you want to do.
Step 2.) Get yourself a factory service manual. Not a Chilton's or a Haynes, from the local parts store, but a genuine Chevrolet service manual for your year, as published by Helm Inc. under contract by Chevrolet. Read, study, and become familiar with how many of the various systems work. You can save yourself a lot of frustration, down the road.

First, what kind of miles are on your car? I assume the engine is sound if you're considering mods but a leak-down test will confirm this. Now most of my C4 experience is on my LT1 but I read most everything around here. First, lose the pre-cats and go to a high performance main cat. Or better yet, go to a true dual exhaust system w/ 2 high flow mini-cats. Good, used LT1/4 systems can be had for a song around here and will bolt up with a little fab work at the muffler shop (to your L98 manifolds) and the purchase of the LT1 hangers. Next, have your stock intake ported and/or it can be upgraded in sections. It's in 3 parts, base, runners and plenum. I think the runners are the most restrictive part on a stock intake. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. A good intake set-up is said to be worth 50 HP alone on these engines by extending the power band to a higher RPM range. I hope this helps and I'm sure many an L98 guru will chime in w/ more details.

Just for sh*ts and giggles I Googled "Hooper Bay" -- you know your vette will go over 20mph-- do you have paved roads up there
PS-- very jealous I'd move up there in a heart beat ( but wifey said NO something about warm weather she likes )
PSS- right now on Long Island it's 15.3 deg.
Ricekila I actually only work here in Hooper bay. My car is at home in Nevada. There arent any paved roads here (or really anything that much resembles roads), we're off of the Alaskan road system. Only way into town is by plane. All the locals get around on 4 wheelers and snow machines...
