After sitting for a day, the car would crank strong but not start.
Try it a few times and then start and idle perfectly. Then I could start the car all day long no problems. Then start fine every day for a week.
Then try to start next day, cranks fine but no start. Depress Gas pedal and she spits, pops and sputters like she wants to start but doesnt, Try again and she starts sputters idles rough, then bang, she smoothes out, idles and runs great. Try starting all day - no problems. It's crazy!!!
What could this be ? Once started and idling fine, she runs perfect, high speed perfect. Just on 1st cold start of the day.
I never seen anything like this before !!! I have tested anything or checked codes yet.
I am going to bet that hooked to scanner you are going to get code 16, distributor low resonance. Another opti-spark gone to opit-heaven. If I am guessing right you are not too far from a roadside breakdown as usually low resonnce is first sign of opti-failure. PS--if so don't go cheap part, too much labor to have to do it second time anytime soon.

Yeah but everything I read says when the Opti is going, there are other signs while driving not just starting. Once the car is started, and idle smooths out, the car runs & idles perfectly.
Could it be anything other then the Opti?

Reason: spelling

Yes, that would be inconsistent with bad opti. Hope someone else will chip in with some suggestions for you.
Sorry.... I have "not" tested anything or checked codes yet.
My vette is a 1994 6spd Coupe (Base) Stock - No Mods. about 95K miles on it.
LT1 engine. Pull the codes and report. This dont sound like an Opti going bad but it does sound like an ignition problem.
There is probably a loose connection somewhere between the ECM and the Opti. There are a couple of places to check after you have pulled the codes. Check connection on top of manifold passenger side between injustors, Connection on ICM, commections on coil and connection on Opti.
Pull the codes and report back and we can start to narrow this problem down and know for sure if it is fuel or ignition related.
Hope this helps.

I'm no mechaniic but , for what it's worth , i have the same problem with my '85 and i think it maybe the fuel pump relay because from what i've read here it'll kick in when you crank the motor and the oil pressure
reaches 10 psi . Other than that , i'm as clueless as you i'm affraid Hope this may point you in the right direction
It's possibly a fuel delivery problem and sounds like it occurs every time the car sits for a long period.
If you don't have the proper tools, I'd have a Corvette shop keep the car over night. The following morning, I'd try to start the car and pull the codes. You'll instantly learn the name of your gremlin(s).
Don't throw money at a car until you know what needs fixing. Too many people replace things without knowing what's wrong. And that's a waste of time and money.
that happens with my 85, but heres somthing to try i think works. Try to just turn your ignition on then off a few times, then play with it a lil to turn your fuel pump on and off. who knows
