Just wondering if any of you guys and gals have one in there 82,84 or any other OBD1 gen pcm for auto tran's vette's? And notice any gains what so ever or at least notice a shift point change, delayed TQ conv lockup ect ect..
Umm, do you mean an over the counter chip like Hypertech etc? I have made my own OBDI chip with significant changes to the torque convert lock-up characteristics. I don't know if they equate to performance gains, but I sure do like how it drives esp. around town, no more lock-unlock-lock bog shudder unlock lock etc.
Changes I made to timing and fuel probably have more to do with perfomance than torque converter lock up, but I have no time slips to show it, just scan tool data showing reduced knock retard and my butt-O-meter/tire spin.
Are the "over the counter chip's" crap? i advanced the timing on mine and uped the octane and made a big diff .. But the lock in lock out boggy stuff has got to go..
I have heard they are not worth the money but I have not personally used one in my Corvette. I have used them in my G-bodies, no real gain there, one of them did delay the TC lock-up but with a TH200-4R you don't have the big 1-2 ratio drop so it's not an issue compared to the TH700-R4 in the Corvette.
I have compared the binary code between a stock chip and a Hypertech and other than the fan temps and some more timing you really don't get much for you money. JMO
Gboby5 has modified the "chip" in my 89 Vette (removed -12 degree timing and trannie shift change) and the results are simply remarkable. I do not know much about the "tuning" of an engine...however, gbody5 knows a lot about it

I bought a Hypertech off eBay for $25. I had heard they were crap but for the price all I wanted it to do was delay the TC lockup and it does that and nothing more at least that the butt dyno can detect. Before the chip I nearly hated driving the car. GM did have a recall or TSB on the 84's way back when to correct this condition but like most TSB's if you don't complain it never got fixed when it went back to the dealer for service.
