Default Low Oil Pressure

I was driving home from work the other day and when I was stopped at a light I looked at my dash and noticed my oil pressure was at 3psi. Luckly nobody was next to me so I pulled over to the side of the road and was about to shut the car off when I noticed the pressure went back up to around 60-65psi which is usually what it is at. The engine was not knocking so I drove the car about a half hour after that and the pressure stayed up. I started the car today and let it idle for a few minutes and it was fine. For the past few days the weather has been extremely hot but not sure if that matters. Does anyone know why that happened? Any answers will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would suspect the sending unit. If your oil pressure dropped that low the oil switch would have opened, turning off the fuel pump relay, shutting down the fuel pump. The oil switch must see 6 psi to close so you had at least that much.
