as everyone may or maynot know, i was building a street/strip 396ci motor. as of monday the motor was complete and ran on a engine dyno to break in and gather info. i will give you a parts list.
1) high nickel four bolt main with arp studs and billet caps.
2) eagle 4340 3.875 stroke crank
3) lunati 6" promod rods
4) custom srp forged pistons
5) brodix m2 215cc heads 64cc chamber 11.5/1 cr
6) compcams solid roller 254/260 @ .050 .670 lift 112 lsa
7) probe 1.5 shaft rocker system
8) jeb's supervictor efi intake
the first dyno run was to bring the motor to temp then cool off. then change the oil and retorque the headbolts and adjust the rockers. we used c12 race gas on all pulls.
the second we brought the motor to temp and then did a pull.
timing was at a conservative 28* # were as follows
HP - 556 AT 6300 RPMS
TQ- 520 AT 4700 RPMS
i was happy with those #'s for the first pull and with the timing at 28*
next pull we bought the timing to 31*
HP- 567 AT 6400
TQ- 523 AT 4800
next we brought the timing to 33*
HP- 573 AT 6400
TQ- 530 AT 4900
Any more timing it lost hp. we probalby could have retarded the cam 2* and gain a few hundred rpms and maybe 10 more hp but i decided to leave it.
keep in mind that this was with a 1050 dominator carb with an a/f ratio of 12/1. the #'s may be a little different with the f/i setup.
i plan of adding some pictures of the install when i get to that point.
if you don't mind me asking, how much did all this stuff cost?
the motor give or take some was about $10000
accel dfi, wire harness, and distributor $2500
fuel system about $700
centerforce clutch and flywheel $900
zex race nos system $600
i hope the centerforce clutch is going to be enough, after doing more research i shouldve gone with a street twin. it only wouldve been $300 more.
I'm not having good luck with them with my 396. I'm on my second one in 2 seasons of racing. Also on my second rear... I've debated getting some more power but can't imagine all the more breakage. But when it's together it's fun as he11.

Well, I dynoed 465rwhp and my centerforce started slipping. I found that my base timing was inadvertedly set 8* retarded on my DFI set up screen (watch that when you are setting your parameters with your DFI). I've since set it to 0* where is should be. I am feeling much more spunk . I just put in another Centerforce DF and it's slipping even worse. LD85 here on the forum is having problems with his Centerforce DF. Centerforce told him they certify the clutch to 600hp. I'd try another one BTW... awesome numbers!!!!
