Default i know its been asked im sorry

Im sorry i know this has been asked before.

I bought the car used my ride quailty sucks the car bounces like a superball.
I want stiffer suspension so are he ac delco shocks that bad or am i better to just pay twice as much and get the bilstein shocks again.
Id like to jsut make the car glide. I mean I know it wont ride liek a cadi. I jsut want it to recover nicely and firmly. Thanks. I dont really need the adjustablity feature. And i dont have the FX3 suspension. JUst a stock 94.

If my fron shocks are leaking a grayish brownish liquid is taht bad thing.

We're in the same boat except I need the FX3 shocks. Now that's expensive. Bilistein's are the best according to everyone here. Like one guy said, you ain't driving no buick.

I switched to the AC Delco shock and was not happy at all. The car smoothed out, but, it started to bounce up and down like I was in a caddy.

I quickly changed the shockso out to TPIS modified shocks and the ride is much better. I purchased these from a co-worker who had them on for a short time and switched his suspension.

For this year, I purchased a set of KYB shocks based on recommendations from other members and will try them out this spring. I am only waiting to do the brakes and shocks at the same time.

Good luck,
Dino

Buy a set of KYB's, they are $120. shipped for all four. Great price and an easy install. New shocks will change the total ride performance.

poly bushings would dampen some of the jostle also. (I'm not saying you don't need shocks, just that shocks alone won't bring you back to the stock ride)

Yeah, I'd say that brownish gray fluid leaks are less than optimal. If your AC-Delco shocks are old and leaking, just replacing them with anything new will probably make a big difference. You have to decide how much stiffer a suspension you want and can live with. Everyone's opinion of a good ride quality is subjective, so here is my opinion, based upon my experience with 3 major brands. I've had Koni Sport, KYB, and Bilstein Z51 shocks on my Vette and I prefer the Bilsteins overall.

I tried KYBs and they are an excellent value for a "quite good", but not great suspension feel. If you drive in town and want "to just make the car glide", then I would say that you would be very happy with the KYB shocks. Cheap to buy, good build quality, smooth ride. When pressed hard in the corners you will notice that they are definately not up to the performance of the Bilsteins or the Konis. At one-half the price though, they do an admirable job.

On my 88 Z51 the KYBs were generally as good as the ride of my brother's 89 with standard suspension. For me that was a little too soft. The Bilstein Z51s work better overall than the KYBs in town and especially in the corners without the fairly harsh stiffness of the Koni Sports.

YMMV

My car is lowered and the KYB's do fine...

The answer depends on how heavy you want your wallet to feel against your body. If you want your wallet to weigh you down, go with KYB. If you want to know your wallet is in your back pocket, but is not pushing heavily into your butt, go with Bilstein. If you want the feeling that your wallet takes up very little room in your pocket, go with Koni.

In other words:

KYB = Inexpensive, but good shock.
Bilstein = Not cheap, but better shock.
Koni = Expensive, but even better than Bilstein.

You can get "heavy-duty" or "sport" models. If you don't plan on racing, auto crossing, etc. and your car will basically be driven on the street, go with the heavy-duty kind. Most people get the sport when their car will be used for racing.

Z51 Bilsteins are higher rate (stiffer) than base suspension Bilsteins. They fit the same and cost the same. It's your preference on ride stiffness, I like my Z51s with an FE1 base suspension on a 94.
