That looks a little light, to me. My FSM says my diff holds approx, 1.7L or 4 pints. Four pints is 2 quarts. My FSM only addresses the Dana 36. The 44 ought to hold a little more. If you use the recommended, two bottles of GM posi additive, 2 quarts might to be enough. If you have 3 quarts of gear lube on hand, you are well covered.
Gordon Killebrew recommends two bottles of diff additive.
Get Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, 75/90 wt and all will be right with the world.
When you pump it all in, just fill with the two bottles of additive first, then add the gear oil until it runs out. We are not talking an exact science here.
1.5 quarts of Mobil 1 75W90 + 2 - 4 oz bottles of GM limited slip differential additive.
But that is if you suck out all the fluid currently in the diff. Make sure you have a piece of tubing small enough to get between the splines on the gear or you won't get all the old fluid out.
Not meaning to change the subject but on your manual they show engine oil capacity is 4qts without filter and 5qts with. Did the 84 corvette use the 1qt filter? It just sparked a old memory of mine when I used to work in a GM parts dept. in the late 70's early 80's and the camaro came with a pf 25 (short) but could use the pf 35 (long) I always wondered why they didnt use the long filter since clearance seemed ok.
Buy two quarts, filll till it comes out the drain hole.
Mine was completely empty from prior disassembly. All parts were sprayed down with brakekleen prior to fill. I would not expect to get 50 ounces again. I suspect it would be a max number.

Gentlemen, the manual pages posted disagree, and yet, perhaps not as much as it would appear. The 2 bottles of GM additive are an additional 4 oz. which equals or 0.125 quart or 0.118 liter. If the differential takes 1.5 liter of gear lube and 0.118 liter of additive, that is 1.618 liters of fluid total. Since the differential isn't filled to absolute capacity, I'd say that both manuals make sense, with the maximum capacity of the differential being greater than 1.6 liters or ~1.7L. The actual amount of gear lube to use would be ~ 1.5 liters. The total fluids required to be purchased to fill the diff according to the above values would be 2 quarts of gear lube (1.89 liters) and 2 bottles of additive.
I refilled my D44 at 75k using 2 quarts of Mobil 1 gear lube and 2 GM additive bottles. There was some gear lube left over, which I did not bother to measure.
At least nobody called anyone else a rustang driver.
