Default 4L60E Rebuild

I'm having my 80K mile trans rebuilt mainly because the tail shaft has way to much play and it needs bushings. Since the exhaust was off of the car and the rear is out, the trans was quite easy to get out.

I'm seeking advice as to what modifications or upgrades I should have done.

I primarily drive this stock motored Corvette on the street with the exception of going to High speed DE days about 5-6 days a year and drags 1-2 days a year. The DE days consist of 4-5 20 minute sessions of constant abuse. I'm putting in 3.07 gears. The rebuild guy was bringing up all kinds of options that I don't know anything about.

Put a beast in it. Add an Alto 8 disk clutch kit for the 3-4. Have him set the 3-4 pack at .040-.055. Alto calls for .025-.040. This is too tight and could burn up the pack. Make sure he puts new vanes in the pump and a new pressure spring in the regulator.
Retail price for theses upgrades amount to approx $150.
Also insist on new accumulator pistons. They tend to wear on the shaft. Most guys reuse the. Spend the $20 for new pistons. You are better off.

I had Select Transmissions build up mine.. They are in Babylon NY.

It's running like a swiss watch, they did the clutch pack, kevlar bands and numerous things to the valve body... reworked my Torque converter.

I agree 100 percent with Pete K saying you need a beast. I spent the last two weekends replacing my broken reaction sun shell with a "Beast." It was in the 4L60E transmission out of my wife's 96' Bravada. I realize that isn't the vette but I think the transmissions are the same? Anyway when the reaction sun shell breaks you lose reverse, second, and fourth gears all at once. It was a cold two weeks here to be messing with transmissions but I saved alot of money doing it myself.

The factory reaction shells seemed to be a problem from about 94 to about 99. Vendor change probably. Early cars did not break often, late cars did not break them much either. Crazy not to change it though, in my opinion. They cost roughly $70. Good piece of mind, even in a lower powered car.

I would let the trans builder buy them. They can often sell them cheaper than you can buy them.
