Default Spring codes

Moving this over from For Sale since I've already bought the damn things...

I'm trying to put the Z51 springs on my '96. My research told me that it'd be a code "FSS" for the front spring.

I ordered them NOS from Chevy. If you email me in a week I will tell you the code on the front.

Might be FHA?
So my front spring came in.

It's got a sticker on one side that says FSS with the 1799032 p/n on it. On the other, it's embossed with the FHA code.

FHA as far as I can tell, is from a '91 FE1 car -- p/n 10048552 -- with a much higher spring rate.

I'm basing my spring research off of the carfiche.com fiche pages ( http://www.tubas.net/vette/front-springs-fiche-2.gif ), and Hib's C4 suspension chart. It's not directly on there that the correct Z51 spring would be FSS - I'm extrapolating based on comparing p/n's to other model years that have it listed.

Now, it'd be nice if it was a nice high spring rate, but I need to make sure that my documentation is correct since this is for competition. Is there a better reference for the spring codes? Possibly the part was superceded by GM?

Since this is for competition, I need to be able to document this correctly. The little sticker might do for now, but I'm worried that when that eventually wears off that I'm left with a mis-marked spring, at least as far as matching what documentiation I have. Unfortunately, the GM p/n (17999032) isn't engraved into the spring either -- just the FHA code. The GM stock tag attached isn't a help -- it only has the p/n on it, no codes.

I would believe the embedded code everytime over any sticker.
FSS & FSR are the 73.2 rate front spring.
FHA is the 93.1 rate front spring.

What's the chance that GM superceded the part?

I'm a little curious about it in that after checking 4-5 corvette salvage yards, none has what should be a relatively common spring - the FSS - since it was used 92-95 on base model cars.

It's a little strange too that I can't find ANY stamped code on the base spring -- which makes me wonder if GM used just stickers then for some reason.

I think I'd LOVE to find proof that the superceded it with the FHA spring instead
