Default Lunati Rods...

Just thought I would drop a line here to let anyone know that is looking for a good set of connecting rods that Lunati Pro Mod Rods have an extremely good profile for stroker setups.

This could save someone TONS of time grinding and clearancing a possible furture setup.

I have always used Crower Stroker Rods in the past and upon putting my setup back together with my now .714 lift cam, the Crower Stroker Rods were hitting REAL bad on the cam during mockup. They previously just cleared the small .880" basecircle cam and now with the added lift, they hit. I could have ground them down more, but instead wanted to find how the pro mod rods would work. I have heard good things about them so I took a trip to summit to compare the two rods. Upon comparing them it looked like the pro mod rods would be a shoe in. So I bought a set.

Mocked up the motor again on Sunday and they all cleared with no problems. There were 4 of them that were super close though. When the cam and rod would pass one other the oil on either would be picked up by the other. About .010 clearance at best. So I did grind them down a little to make sure there was at least .065

All in all though, my setup is rather extreme with a 4.0 stroke, and big lift cam - so clearance is not a thing you have a lot of. Having said that on a small stroked motor the Lunati pro Mod rods should be a great choice for a person putting together an equal stroke or less motor.

Summit sells the rods for 700 dollar, they are good to 850hp, and 8500RPM. Not as good as the Billet rods, but they are probably overkill for anything we are doing. Plus they are over 1200 dollars now.

Hope this helps some of you future stroker guys out.

Yup. I also bought a set for my 89 Camaro. A guy had got a pallet of them somewhere on ebay and he sold 25 sets for $350.00 Shipped. I snagged up 3 sets. lol

I was lucky enough to by a shortblock with the ProMods in there - real nice pieces and I will likely buy them again. Good stuff, strong rods.

Jesse (my Dad's name). I understand that you are EM's new chip burner. I hope that you are better than their last guy. How are you with SD? Marcus

I used Lunati Pro Mod rods in a 4" stroke 409 I did for a local guy. They are quality rods that give good cam clearance. The cam wasn't nearly as big as Ski's, but I didn't have to grind on any of the rods to clear. I used a .850 base circle hydraulic roller using the factory roller lifters and retaining equipment. The problem with that small of a base circle and the stock stuff is the lifters don't raise out of the block far enough for the alignment bars to grab them real well. So I had to use roller lifters that Crane makes that are actually taller to use the factory alignment bars. Or I could of used aftermarket tie bar lifters.
