I noticed that my car has chirping noise that sounds like metal rubbing coming from the top front of the engine. Car seems to run nearly perfect though. The noise doesn't match the revolutions of the car. They happen around every 2-3 seconds. Any ideas?

Check your pulleys. Loosen belt and check them one by one. Also I would bet that with no belt you would get no chirping, meaning it is a belt driven item _tensioner, idler, alt, a/c, ps pump that is going bad.

At 1800 rpm, the belt would make about 30 revoultions per second. so I am not sure it is a belt item, but it sure sounds like it. Can you see any spots that show bright, shiny wear?
If the belt has not been changed recently - change it. I chased a problem on another car for a week. Replaced idler pulley and tensioner only to find out it was the belt. Belt looked like new but I guess where it rode on the back side was the problem.
I had this problem on my '86. It would come and go at random and I just couldn't locate it. It had a new water pump so I didn't think that was it because it didn't happen right away after installing it so I looked elsewhere for the noise replacing the smog pump and idler pully. It got so bad I barely drove the car for a year because the noise would happen at the most embarrassing times. Turned out to be the water pump blades rubbing the rear cover. (cheap a$$ rebuilt pump)
It could be your shift point, I tend to hear a chirping every few seconds on occasion
Take off the serpentine belt and start the engine if the noise goes away it's most likely the belt, thats a very common thing to make that kind of noise when the belt dries out. Good luck
Recently had a similar situation on my 91'. If the chirp is rythmic, in other words, happening at regular intervals I would a gree with the above comments. On mine it was random but growing in frequency. After much looking I happened to put my hand on the air pump hose to the passenger side exhaust manifold air injectors and felt a buzzing consistant with the chirp. Turned out it was the oneway valve at the air injection manifold. Replaced the valve, noise gone.
Just one more possibility, good luck with your issue.
