Do any of you guru's know why they put 9.5 rims on rear and 8.5 rims on front with same size tires on the 84, Z-51? I'm just curious as to what this was supposed to accomplish

Obviously chevy was tring to accomplish something with the handling but what could it have been with only and inch difference on the rims and tires the same size on both rims?
thats something i always wanted to know too but never have been able to find. my guess is the 9.5 are able to but the tire down flater with less sidewall give. the stock 255 goodyears are pretty wide and on the 8.5 inch rims have a good sidewall bulge, compared to some other tire makes and models at least
