I bought TPIS long tube headers with smog plumbing and EGR tube for my 1990 L98 TPI engine. The headers do not have a flange connection for the EGR tube like the stock manifold does. It has a female threaded connection on header. Is there an adapter or does there have to be a new pipe fabricated for this.
You should get the early EGR tube. I think TPIS sells it. It uses a crimp ring to hold the tube to the header. I put a pipe plug in the threaded hole and never got around to installing the tube.
For some stupid reason, TPIS choose to go with the early L98 style EGR tube connection instead of the late L98 style. They recommend you buy the early EGR pipe and use the crimp ring.
As was mentioned, you can have your plate welded on, or you can buy the earlier EGR tube and crimp ring.
The crimp ring is a PITA to deal with. I have had to install it twice (once for the headers, the second time during my intake swap). If you want to see a phot doc of how I install the crimp ring and what it involves, you can see it in my photo doc of my intake swap here:
