No, but you may need to turn the crank for the counterweights to clear.

To remove it, no. To install it, yes otherwise you'll have a tough time getting the new gasket to stay in place as you try to slide the pan past the #1 main cap.

Before you put the RTV in the transition points and install the gasket, dry fit the pan and move the crank until you find the easiest point where the pan will fit between the crank and the cross member. You shouldn't need to raise the engine. Also if you go with the Fel Pro gasket and get the little blue install pegs, you may want to cut the front two in half to ease the installation. They tend to be about 2" long and once you install these pegs and then then snap the gasket in place, you probably won't be able to slip the pan in place. However if you cut of a portion of the pegs, they will still hold the gasket in place and ultimately the pan once you slide it into place and push it onto the pegs. Good luck.

Raising the motor is very easy to do and really helps on reinstall. Remove the two motor mount bolts from the bottom and raise the motor by jacking up on the tranny. Be careful to only go a couple of inches, watch out for the rear of the motor and the firewall.
