Couple of years ago i pushed my vette to 151 mph, and started thinking how old this car was and that anything could happen in a split second. Why is it when you are a teenager FAST IS NEVER FAST ENOUGH?When does fear come into play?
I'm 20 and I take my 2000 Cougar way faster then I take my '88 RustoVette ;)
The 'Vette needs restoration before I'll take it that fast... give me time... 120 I've done in it, le yawn... did 100 today, I break 90 daily in my cars as a matter of practice ;P

I think when we're younger we have no idea of the things that could go wrong. We knew EVERYTHING RIGHT? Now that we know better, well, we KNOW BETTER! Still doesn't keep us from pushing it at times! :D
I don't know if I should post this but I had 172.5 mph on mine for a minute or so. I am 38 and somewhat of a gasoline adict. I wonder what my 383 will do. I have done a rough calculation, if my lock up doesn't disengage I should be able to go beyong 187.5 mph at about 5400 rpm. I don't dare, I don't have a wing on the back and am scared to see it get light. I wonder where I could get a nice aluminum looking one.
Oh I KNOW BETTER, we all KNOW BETTER. We just choose to ignore it at times :blueangel:
124 without the top was about to border on scary. It probably wouldn't have been too bad on the highway, but on a narrow country two lane with a turn coming up quickly, it was getting scary pretty quick. The best part was the look on the faces of the approaching traffic
Nice speed. Around Rotterdam, or? I got an 89 up to 150 around Tilburg and a C5 to 120 at Rehoboth, Deleware, USA. 120 was top down of course. Just enough to rough up your hairstyle. :D
I'd be interested to see your 383 installation. I might want to go that way myself in the near future. I have an option out on an 84 Z51. Hoping that will work out...
I have seen 183 on my old 90 with the 383. Granted that was on the factory speedo, but still saw it and thats all that counts. Car didn't feel light or floaty at all. Stable as you would want something going that fast to be. But not something I would repeat on a regular basis.
Well - I frequently go aprox 160 mph on the Autobahn, the fastest I ever got my stock LT1 was 165, but that was a bit downhill.
There are two things I´m afraid of:
1) Oil temp: The coolant temp stays nicely below 200 F at those speeds, but , boy, the engine oil temp goes way up! To about 130° C, dunno how many Fahrenheits that is, but must be around 260 or so.
2) The need for braking! Corvette stock brakes are dangerous crap! Last weekend I had to emergency-brake from 160 mph down to 50 mph with rotors and performance friction pads less than a year old. Result: Warped AND cracked rotors! You´ll get these cars down from that speed once, but after that you´ll need new brakes!!!

I have been up to an indicated 145, but I know my speedo is off. When I cruise on the highway at 65 I blow by traffic. So I know it is probably off by at least 10mph.
I think the question was when does fear set in? When you loose friends (right after high school to a tree) or relatives ( a nephew down in Mssissippi went airborn after going in to a culvert 3 years ago). That makes you think twice about what you are doing.
Now on a brighter note my 88 has seen only 120 with the top down, and a shaking wife next to me. Had more peddle, ran out of wife.LOL
